Planning an Odoo integration: the questions that prevent rework
A practical checklist for connecting stores, restaurant platforms and other business systems with Odoo.
Start with the complete business process
An integration should serve a defined business process. Instead of asking only whether two platforms can connect, describe what should happen when an order is created, updated, cancelled or returned. Agree which team owns each exception and where the final result should appear.
Decide which system owns each record
For products, customers, prices and stock, identify the authoritative system and the permitted direction of updates. Use clear identifiers to match records. This reduces the risk of duplicate products, conflicting changes or updates being sent back and forth without a clear owner.
Map the details before moving transactions
Review branches, warehouses, units of measure, payment methods and tax configuration with the relevant business owners. Agree how bundles, modifiers, discounts and delivery charges should be represented when they are part of your workflow. A successful connection alone does not prove that the business records are correct.
Define timing and exception handling
Agree which updates are immediate, scheduled or initiated by a user. Decide what happens when a platform is unavailable or a record fails validation. Specify a way to identify failed items, review the reason and retry safely without creating duplicate business documents.
Test a representative set of scenarios
Use ordinary orders as well as cancellations, partial returns, multiple payment methods and branch-specific cases where relevant. Reconcile the source records with their results in Odoo. Include the business team in acceptance testing and document any agreed limitations before launch.
