As of 24 September 2026, the official Odoo Experience 2026 page says Odoo 20 will be released during the event. This article is a readiness guide, not a final feature list. Validate release availability and the published documentation before choosing your target version.

A new version is a business decision

Start with the problems you want to solve: slow approvals, fragmented reporting, repeated data entry or a difficult employee experience. Write down the current process and a measurable target. A useful upgrade should improve a real workflow, rather than simply change the version number.

Build an inventory of your current system

List the installed applications, custom modules, reports, scheduled jobs and external integrations. Assign an owner to each business process. Include the details that are easy to overlook: permissions, approval rules, printed documents, imported files and mobile access.

Test your own workflows before switching

Odoo’s upgrade documentation recommends testing an upgraded database and preparing compatible versions of custom modules. Use a separate test environment to run complete scenarios: quotation to collection, purchase to payment, stock movements and your own approval processes. Record expected results and have business owners review them.

Agree clear criteria for going live

Before scheduling the switch, agree who approves testing, which issues must be resolved, how the final backup will be taken and how users will be informed. Define a recovery plan and allocate time for training. The right launch date is the one your system and team are ready for.
